:: Monday, June 18, 2001 :: :: Tomb Raider blasts Pearl Harbour :: Despite poor reviews from the critics (for the film, not Angie's performance), Tomb Raider has topped the Box Office this weekend in the US, opening with a $48.2 million weekend, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday. The Paramount Pictures film, which reportedly cost almost $100 million to make, sets a new opening record for a female star-driven vehicle. Angie is signed on for two more Lara Croft films. :: Wednesday, February 7, 2001 :: :: Jolie chooses life :: It turns out that Angelina was not available for The Panic Room (see below) because she had already committed to rom-com "Life, or Something Like It", to be directed by Stephen Herek (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, 101 Dalmations). Not much is known about this, except that it's the story of a hard-bitten female reporter who gains a whole new outlook on life when she is told she has only one week to live. Should be an intriguing change of pace after the rigours of the Tomb Raider shoot. :: Monday, February 5, 2001 :: :: Foster now in Panic :: Jodie Foster has now been confirmed as Nicole Kidman's replacement in the upcoming The Panic Room. Kidman was forced to withdraw when she aggravated a knee injury that she picked up on 2000's Moulin Rouge. The Panic Room, directed by David Fincher (Se7en, The Game, Fight Club) concerns a divorced mother's terror as three burglars (Forest Whittaker, Dwight Yoakum, Jared Leto) break into her New York brownstone and she is forced to hide with her daughter in the "panic room", a room reinforced for such extreme situations. Foster's casting ends rumours that Angelina Jolie was the front runner for taking over. The only other name attached to taking over fom Kidman was Robin Wright Penn. |
